The Super Bowl has concluded, and this year, the Kansas City Chiefs experienced what they had dealt out in 2024, falling 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles. As with every Super Bowl, numerous moments beyond the game itself went viral.
Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance sparked a wide array of reactions, but the contrasting figures of Donald Trump and Taylor Swift ultimately stole the spotlight.
Swift attended the event to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who, unfortunately, couldn’t help the Chiefs defend their title. Meanwhile, Donald Trump made history as the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl, with cameras capturing every moment of his presence.
Cameras also focused on Taylor Swift, leading to audible boos from sections of the crowd. Swift visibly reacted to the negativity, while Trump wasted no time mocking her on social media—an unsurprising move given their tumultuous history.
Donald Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl when he entered the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, to watch the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles. While the Eagles secured the championship with a 40-22 victory, much of the post-game discussion revolved around events beyond the field.
Earlier in the weekend, President Trump had announced his attendance at the Super Bowl. Speaking to Fox, he predicted a Chiefs victory, expressing admiration for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany.
“I have to go with Kansas City,” Trump stated, praising Mahomes and his wife. “She’s a Trump fan, a MAGA fan, so I happen to love her, okay. But she’s a great person.”
Despite Mahomes and his wife having a disappointing evening as the Chiefs lost, Trump shifted his attention to the NFL’s new kickoff rule rather than the game itself.
“The worst part of the Super Bowl, by far, was watching the Kickoff where, as the ball is sailing through the air, the entire field is frozen, stiff. College Football does not do it, and won’t! Whose idea was it to ruin the game?” he posted.
Donald Trump & Taylor Swift: A Rocky History
Trump’s presence at the iconic event generated significant buzz, but his impact wasn’t universally praised. Upon arriving at the stadium, he took photos with law enforcement officers, though body language expert Judi James suggested he appeared “weary and tense.”
According to the Irish Star, James noted that Trump’s demeanor suggested concerns about security, likely influenced by the 2024 rally shooting incident. “His gestures and facial expressions made him look weary and tense. His wave to the crowd appeared perfunctory, and there was rigidity in his lower jaw,” she observed.
James also commented on his serious approach toward fans, noting that he interacted with them as if they were political officials rather than engaging in typical crowd-pleasing behavior.
Taylor Swift & Donald Trump at the Super Bowl
Donald Trump was named TIME’s 2024 Person of the Year, following a controversial cover featuring Elon Musk sitting in what appeared to be Trump’s Oval Office chair. Trump dismissed the magazine’s relevance, stating he had forgotten it still existed.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year, attended the game to support Kelce. Since their relationship began, her presence at games has amplified media attention around the Chiefs. However, her history with Trump has been far from amicable.
Early in her career, Swift refrained from political endorsements, but in 2018, she publicly supported Democratic candidates in Tennessee. On Instagram, she endorsed Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives, expressing her stance on LGBTQ rights and systemic racism.
Trump reacted dismissively to Swift’s endorsement, commenting, “I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now.”
Trump vs. Swift: The Ongoing Feud
Swift’s criticisms of Trump continued in subsequent years. In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, she condemned the administration’s tactics, stating, “We’re a democracy—at least, we’re supposed to be—but I really think he believes this is an autocracy.”
When Trump sought re-election in 2023, he leaned into conservative support, even embracing the song Justice for All, performed by incarcerated January 6 defendants. The song’s rise to No.1 on iTunes led Trump to boast that it had “knocked off” Swift and Miley Cyrus from the top spots.
In the lead-up to the 2024 election, Trump claimed credit for Swift’s success, citing his signing of the Music Modernization Act. “I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists. Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will,” he posted on Truth Social.
As Swift maintained her political stance, Trump speculated that she would not endorse Joe Biden, stating, “There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country.”
Trump Mocks Swift After Super Bowl Boos
At the Super Bowl, Trump received loud cheers when shown on the stadium screen, while Swift’s appearance was met with boos. She visibly reacted to the crowd’s response, which Trump promptly capitalized on. He shared a video of the crowd booing Swift alongside a clip of himself receiving cheers.
After the game, he took to Truth Social, writing, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
The long-standing tensions between Trump and Swift show no signs of fading, especially as political divisions continue to influence public opinion.
